Lavender has become the farm's signature since our first block of 500 Munstead Lavender planted in 1987. Our first harvest was in 1988 and filled two wheelbarrows! We currently specialize in cultivating Sweet Lavender varieties (Lavandula angustifolia) for its scent and taste. Late blooming Lavender includes the True Spike Lavender (L. latifolia) and the new hybrid Lavadins (L. x intermedias). Each July we watch the emerging hues of blue, mauve and purple as Lavender Harvest time approaches once more. And the fragrance ~ Lavender Lovers come explore our site!

Happy Valley Croquet Club

Welcome to Happy Valley Croquet Club.

The big news for 2022 is that we have increased the lawn to a full size lawn - 35 yards by 28 yards. We have been actively playing croquet on the farm since our children were small, when we played Nine Wicket Garden Croquet - that's a few years ago, since the kids don't seem to be living at home anymore ... perhaps under some rock I haven't lifted recently ...
For a couple of years we dallied with USCA Rules Croquet but now the latest incarnations we play are Six Wicket Association Rules Croquet and Golf Croquet.

Upcoming Events

  • Monthly - Doubles Alternate Stroke AC. From 10am to 5pm. Bring $5 for drinks and homemade baked goods. This is held every third Saturday of the month. Please call to confirm.
  • Invitation Only 14th Annual Happy Valley Lavender Picnic and Golf Croquet - July 9, 2023
  • Happy Valley B & C Tournament 2023 - August 11 - 13, 2023
  • Happy Valley Eights Tournament 2023 - August 17 - 20, 2023

The Nerdy Facts

croquet lawn and mower

The new lawn is a full size lawn internationally recognized for competition play. The grass is Bentgrass 007 which sounds very Bond and sexy, but isn't unless you rub your cheek on the lawn and ... just saying ... the truth is this grass seed was introduced in 2007.
Anyway it is now cut at 1/8 inch, making it smooth on the cheek.
The hoops are set at a stupid impossible 3 11/16 inch and are carrot based as are used in the UK. Balls are Dawsons. That is the pro stuff. I have hoops and mallets and balls for kids and adult wannabe kids and so just say what you want.

Playing time

Sunday afternoons, or by appointment.
Since I am retired, that leaves lots of options.
We are open for social events, parties, company team building and charity fund raisers. Please call for details. Rentals for Charity fund raisers are free.

Victoria Croquet Community

Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling and Croquet Club is the mother ship of our local croquet community. They have been supporting croquet since around 2010. The club activity brought over several high level players from Vancouver to Victoria and then activity rippled out to Victoria Lawn Bowling Club and then outwards to several other lawn bowling clubs. The mutual rewards of sharing lawn bowling with croquet soon becomes obvious with building the membership and volunteer base and sharing the huge piece of real estate that is the perfect flat lawn.
The other side of croquet is the small guerrilla groups that play on public land and stay under the radar.
There is also a private club that has been active since 1946, and is still taking no new members ... I asked!
